At mi-fi we are proud to support women in business, whether that be through an entrepreneurial pursuit or as a leader in their chosen profession. The inaugural mi-fi High Tea was held at the Langham Hotel Melbourne on Friday 5 December as a celebration of the achievements of our female clients.

We were joined by 30 amazing women at the forefront of business who shared their stories and networked amongst a decadent spread of sweet treats and bubbles. Our special guests for the afternoon were mi-fi client, Catherine Blackford, Owner and Operator of Bindle and Laura Cardinal, Product Manager from Xero who joined mi-fi Partner, Glen D’Cruz, in a panel discussion.

What was immediately apparent from both of our special guests was their passion for the products they are creating. Catherine’s business, Bindle, assembles elegant ‘hampers’ tailored around a specific theme or occasion. Catherine is quick to point out that a Bindle is no ordinary hamper and passionately explains the blend of sustainability and style that sets her product apart. As a regular customer, we certainly agree.

Catherine has just made the leap into full time business operator only a month ago, having left her role at the Victorian Parliament. “It was amazing how my mindset changed once I had made that decision”,  Catherine explained. “I would often be asked what I did, and I would tell people about my job. Now I tell them about Bindle”. Catherine see’s this important step taking her business to another level and we are excited to see the amazing things she does in 2015.

Laura has been Product Manager at Xero since April 2014, heading up a team tasked with the role of building ‘Beautiful Accounting Software’. As a 100% Xero firm, all of our clients will attest to the fact that she is achieving this mission. Our discussions with Laura throughout the afternoon were enlightening; she is truly passionate about delivering a product that is both practical and enjoyable to use. We are excited about what she is working on (and to get anyone excited about accounting software is no mean feat!)

Laura held previous product management roles at and although her first profession was as a rockstar. ‘I was in a band in my younger days’, Laura told us. That creative flair has no doubt contributed to her success in building some amazing technology products.

We look forward to next year’s High Tea and welcoming more amazing women to share their stories.
